A visit to the Frankfort Farmer's Market

This Saturday (February 7) from 9 Am – 2 PM the Frankfort Farmer's Market hosts For the Love of Chocolate and Humanity. It will feature a talk on chocolate by regional author Barbara Disborough and many chocolate vendors!

Calling All Chocolate Lovers and Sweethearts…

On February 7th from 9 am to 2 pm, the Frankfort Farmers Market will host "For the Love of Chocolate and Humanity", a benefit for Habitat for Humanity of Benzie County. Chocolate creations from area caterers and restaurants will be sold with proceeds going to help build well attractive, well constructed and affordable houses for Benzie County families.

Barbara Disborough, author of the new book Guide to Chocolate in the Grand Traverse Region, will give a talk on chocolate at 11 am and will be signing books from 10 am until 2 pm. She is donating 10% of the proceeds of the book sale that day to Habitat of Benzie County.

It will be a great time to brighten the winter by indulging in spirit lifting chocolates made by our own Benzie area businesses or buying something for a sweetheart for Valentine's Day. A Habitat Chocolate Shoppe will sell day tempting treats such as chocolate mousse from Bluestone Catering, chocolate covered cherries and chocolate caramels from Betsie Bay Inn, dark chocolate covered rice krispy treats from Crystal Mountain Resort, wavy chocolate candies from Still Grinning Catering, and much, much more. Mocha coffees and teas will also be available from Java 429.

    “At the Market”…
    Fresh produce currently at the Frankfort Farmer’s Market: as of January 24, 2009 the following produce are available: gourmet baby lettuce mix, mesclun salad greens, baby arugula, spinach, escarole, white onions, red onions and bok choy, daikon radishes, tat soi mustard greens. Occasionally beets, white, yellow, orange and purple carrots, kale, Swiss chard, and herbs. You will also find local honey, maple syrup, jams, fruit sauces, fruit butters, dips, fresh eggs, freshly baked artisan bakery goods, gluten free baked goods, naturally cultured foods and much, much more.
    Calendar of Events:
    • Feb 7 – "For the Love of Chocolate & Humanity" a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity of Benzie County and book signing with Barbara Disborough, author of "The Guide to Chocolate in the Grand Traverse Region”. Habitat Chocolate Shoppe – all your favorite Benzie area fine Chocolatiers in one place!!! (Special hours for this event 9 am to 2 pm.)
    • Feb 14 – Michigan Gems & Gemstones presented by local Jewelry Artists. Perfect for a Valentine’s gift.
    • Feb 21 – Fiber Arts Unleashed – Demonstrations by talented artisan weavers, spinners, master knitters and crocheters. Beautiful warm, natural fibers hand crafted into scarves, hats, mittens, rugs and much more. (Special hours and location for this event 9 am to 2 pm at the Lions Club Building, M22 & Main Street.)
    • Feb 28 – Artisan & Varietal Honey Tasting – A presentation and sampling of many different specialty honey and flavored honey products from local producers. How sweet it is!
    • March 7 – Gluten Free Day at the Market –GF baked goods and products from local bakeries and food manufacturers. GF soaps and skincare will also be available for this special event.

    • June 6 – Garden Goods Swap – Calling all Gardeners…Bring your extra perennials, seedlings, seeds, gardening tools, books and magazines to Swap and give them a fresh start! $5 per table as a Market Fundraiser. Garden clubs are welcome. Photos and stories welcome!
    • June 13 – Asparagus, Asparagus, Asparagus! Fresh asparagus will be featured at the market along with asparagus food items. Favorite asparagus recipes from the vendors will also be available.
    • June 20 – “Bring on the Bread” – Artisan bread baking demonstrations (2) 10 am & 11 am by Crescent Bakery. For reservations 352-4611. Taste samples of many varieties of Artisan Baked Breads; including sourdough, naturally leavened, gluten free breads, fruit breads and many more.

    I'm new to this site…verty interesting. But you need to post events BEFORE they happen so people can plan ahead to attend. We don't want to know about events that have already taken place!

    We actually didn't post that schedule. Cindy posted it here under the comment section. We do have a calendar of events that is always available to see upcoming events. Plus we have a weekend roundup that is published on Thursdays that covers all of the weekends coming events.
