The new Gold Coast Marina in Frankfort (a condo/dockominium development at the site of the former Mitchell Marina on betsie Bay) has added a pretty cool new feature to the area internet: a Frankfort Harbor webcam.
You can select one of their pre-selected views or pan the camera 360˚ to look at whatever you want!
Just so it's clear, Leelanau Communications, the web/marketing company owned by betsiebay.net co-founder Andy McFarlane, built the site for Gold Coast Marina.

Arcadia Bluffs Golf Course is a daily-fee golf club, open to the public seven days a week, from mid-April to mid-November (weather permitting).
The course is built on the bluffs overlooking over a half a mile of Lake Michigan, 225 feet above the shore of Lake Michigan and is designed to be enjoyed by guests of all golfing abilities. It features sod-walled bunkers, wide fairways and native grasses and large greens, with a first class clubhouse.
Arcadia Bluffs offers one the most dazzling collection of golf holes in the United States. Vistas of lake Michigan can be viewed from anywhere on the property as the course and clubhouse are perched on the bluff overlooking Lake Michigan.
Michigan Golf Magazine has a nice article on Arcadia Bluffs in which they conclude:
Arcadia Bluffs is golf personified: a world-class links golf course with full practice area, short game facility, and GPS equipped golf cars. Arcadia is one of the "I have to play it" courses – clear your schedule, make your travel plans and enjoy a facility that is unrivaled in the United States.

The Benzie County Sport Fishing Association is dedicated to the protection, enhancement and promotion of the sport fishery of Lake Michigan, specifically in Benzie County and its adjoining waters. The membership includes fishermen and women, charter businesses and other interested parties.
The site has all kinds of information and links to marine forecasts and water data and photos of more fish than you can fry in a month of Fridays.
If there aren't enough links for you, check out Don Harrison's Northwest Michigan Fisherman's Internet Resource Site for area fishing reports, sporting club, association sites, Michigan tackle manufacturers and tackle stores, and DNR, environmental, conservation and wildlife internet sites.

In addition to much needed rain, we've seen winds begin to move into late August mode as we start to get the cooler nights, meaning more waves for surfers. This weekend looks like more of the same.
There's two great events this weekend that celebrate our amazing fishing: the National Coho Festival in Honor (Aug 23-26) and the Benzie Fishing Frenzy (Aug 24). The following weekend is Labor Day and then on September 8th Frankfort welcomes A Taste of Benzie, an annual celebration of Benzie County's culinary delights!

We figured that before summer is over, we should give a shout-out to the Cherry Bowl Drive in Theater. This classic drive-in is located in Honor, Michigan and has provided "Fine Film, Food, Fun and Family Entertainment" since it was opened in 1953. Their goal is provide clean, wholesome family entertainment in a safe atmosphere and won't play any film stronger than PG13 (or glorifies teen drinking and/or drug use).
While they boast Northern Michigan's largest movie screen, the real show happens before the picture, when viewers can enjoy vintage cartoons and advertisements and fun activities like miniature golf, hula-hooping and all the great memorabilia collected by the Cherry Bowl. With great tasting homemade and handmade food at Cherry Bowl Dinner and great movies on the screen, you can't go wrong at the Cherry Bowl!

Here's a photo of one of 2 people (j_lakechick) who I expect will be very active in adding photos and comments to betsiebay.net. The photo was taken by the other (plattegal), and they both spent 4 hours kayaking the Lower Platte River … exactly the way to enjoy what could be a 1/2 or hour jaunt!
Click for more about kayaking or canoing the Platte River and if you're a photographer, consider adding some photos of the area to the betsiebay.net group on the photo sharing site Flickr.

The latest issue of the Traverse City Business News is going in depth with a lot of great features on Benzie County including one on betsiebay.net that starts with site co-founder Andy McFarlane explaining how this whole thing got started:
"I have been working with Ken Lake, a Frankfort resident and college roommate of mine, on the site," said McFarlane, who is married with two children. "This winter, Ken and I were walking around Frankfort and talking about all the new energy and development in the Benzie County area. Ken’s hopes were that as people moved into the area, they'd know something about where they were moving to."
With that in mind, McFarlane said they decided to create betsiebay.net.
"We decided to create a web site that tells positive stories about Frankfort and the surrounding areas," said McFarlane. "We'll focus on Benzie, but we’ll range south to Manistee, north into Leelanau and east to Traverse City—in a way that encourages people to enjoy what's there and to become a part of the local economy."
"We want it to be informative, fun and the kind of site that helps you enjoy your life more fully."
