Hi Lynda. We have certainly crossed paths a few times. I remember paying 25 or 50 cents to ride the Princess down the river. And yes your father was amazing, Captain Frost will forever live in our childhood memories.
Most of the "under the bridge" action didn't happen until late in the evening. LOL Do you remember Miller's Barn? What fun times.
There really is no place like the Platte River.

Hi Janie, Riverat: For a couple of years I was the "Princess" on the Paddle
Princess helping my Dad, Ted Frost, run the sidewheeler down to Loon Lake and back. We took 5 trips a day whether we had 2 or 25 passengers. I never tired of the river, ever! I remember the waterwheel, miniature golf and wondering what everyone did under the "bridge". I headed back to Calif. to college/marriage. Dad continued to drive from Calif. for the next 8 summers to run the boat. He was amazing. When I was very young he farmed the Chic a Gammy farm up on the ridge above Frankfort for a few years before moving to Calif...where there is no place like the Platte River!

When we were kids they called us River Rats. We lived up our names that day. Way back when, there were 3 main events at 'The Bridge'. Swimming at Carter's hole, hanging out in Miller's barn and playing mini-golf at the Water Wheel (and there really was a water wheel in the river). Oh and let's not forget all the things we did under the bridge but will never tell. You could rent a canoe for $6.00, bother Bob Miller until he gave you a paddle board to play on or take ride from Miller's Canoe Rental to Loon Lake on the Paddle Princess. It's a great place now and was an awesome place to grow up.

Hey Andy

Thanks so much for adding us in your blog. We actually only went from the public access (our family has a lot right next to it) on Big Platte Lake (Arborvitae Drive) to Loon Lake. So as you can see we really did stretch it out, it was great.

I have a bunch more photo's of Benzie that I will get out there soon.

take care,
plattegal
